Devaux Grande Reserve Champagne 37.5cl

£22.50

Devaux was founded in 1846 by brothers Jules and Auguste Devaux, and was family owned for more than a century. Today, Devaux is owned by the Union Auboise, a co-operative in the Côte des Bar, the heartland of Pinot Noir in Champagne, where the grapes are in huge demand from the top producers. Physically closer to Chablis than Reims or Épernay, the vines are grown on Burgundian soils of Kimmeridgian marl and Portlandian limestone.

A few years ago now we made an error of judgment when we tried to taste the wines at the wonderful Chateau whilst we were on a family trip in France, leaving the two junior members of the family in the car, with its alarm going off every other minute, not the most relaxing of tasting it such wonderful surroundings. Well worth a visit, but leave the children behind!

The wine has a lovely Pinot Noir richness on the nose, with aromas of baked apples and vanilla. On the palate, it is full, rounded and well balanced, with a lively, persistent finish. 12% vol.
