Bergerie de L’Hortus Blanc 2023

£21.95

I absolutely love this wine and whilst it may worry you that there are a plethora of grape varieties going on in the mix, please don’t let it put you off.

This is a classy estate in the heart of the Cevennes mountains on the edge of the Grand Massif of southern France, the appellation known as Pic St. Loup. Here though for this white as they have none indigenous white grapes within the cépage (blend) it is labelled as Val de Montferrand (the sub region). We are 35 kms inland from Montpellier with the mediterranean sea thereafter, but it has almost 600mm more rainfall than there.

The freshness and purity and aromatics are a go go. The nose offers aromas of white peach underlined by orange blossom notes. The palate is driven by energetic acidity coated with a ripe and juicy mouthfeel, ending on a long and saline finish. 13% vol.

This is far more exciting than a standard modern day Chablis!
