I love the precision and purity of this Sauvignon Blanc from Domaine Bel Air. Now run by the 8th generation and Katia Mauroy-Gauliez is in charge of the winemaking with her brother Cedric.
Pouilly Fumé appellation is located 3 hours due south of Paris, about 15 minutes drive south-west of other famous Sauvignon appellation of Sancerre, here though they are only allowed to make white wines from Sauvignon.
Widely recognised, 2024 was a challenging vintage due to so much rain throughout the growing season. Thankfully though, at the time of harvest mid-September things had dried up and whilst yields were down, they have made an excellent wine.
Lovely citrus/lemon – grass notes, wet flinty stones as should be there from the ‘Fumé/gunflint’ influence of the Kimmeridgian limestone soils. Great backbone of acidity drives the wine. 12% vol
