With the demise of Domaine Huet (until recent return to the UK thanks to R. Kelly) of world class Chenin Blanc, we have been looking to find a suitable alternative.
At the end of 2022 we tasted several of these wines and realised we might have finally found a suitable contender. Whilst the estate can boast a long history since 1786 it is currently in the safe hands (of former city planner) Julien Pinon the 8th generation. Certified organic since 2003, they have now 33 acres under their care.
This wine whilst still youthful, offers classic apples and pears, white flowers and honey, a hint of damp cloth, cold handcream (atrixo)… and all good Vouvray has the crackle of excitement from the racy acidity towards the finish. However, it is Julien’s relaxed, almost haunting way with residual sugar that gives his wines the whisper of underlying richness. Drink now and over the next 5 years. 13.5% vol.
