The challenge we had here is which wines not to list from Tim Duval, as we would have loved to have taken the other Annexus wine made from 100% Mourvedre, or his top cuvée Eligo …which will follow at some point soon!
Fruit for the Annexus Grenache was sourced solely from a very old, low-yielding vineyard in the Eden Valley. Planted in the 1860s and so yes, the vines are now over 150 years old.
John obtained a small allocation for the first time in 2013 and this limited production wine will be made only in the very best years. Whilst initially more closed or subtle on the nose than the Plexus red, it certainly delivers on the palate and I’m a huge Grenache noir fan!
Bright ruby red in colour, with lifted notes of raspberry, red cherry and floral hints apparent on the nose. On the palate the wine is full-bodied, with generous layers of elegant red fruits accompanied by plenty of savoury spice and velvety tannins that ease into a long, pure finish. 14.5% vol. Drink now and over the next 10 years.
