Domaine Guy Alion, the producer behind this wine from Domaine Mazelles, makes lovely wines in the heart of the Loire Valley. Whilst we have listed their Touraine-Chenonceaux Sauvignon Blanc for some time, we’ve not listed their red wine before. Whilst in Devon recently, we went to Totnes and couldn’t resist popping in to another independent wine merchants, sensibly named, Totnes wines!
I duly bought a bottle of this wine to see what the crack was and low and behold it didn’t last long! Soft red berried fruits are a go, light supple tannins as you would expect and thankfully no green storkyness that can occur in Pinot Noir here. Just really lovely quaffable, exciting and more importantly affordable Pinot Noir from France. Enjoy!
The vineyard extends mainly over the slopes of the north bank of the river Cher, with southwest and southeastern exposure. The soil types are clay-limestone and shallow clay-siliceous with the presence of flints and as the slopes are steep, good, natural drainage. Whilst this wine is not certified BIO (organic), they nevertheless farm sustainably.
