We were thrilled to recently meet Mike Ratcliffe and taste through his wines from Vilafonté. One of the co-founders of Vilafonté and a leader in the Cape wine industry, for many years he has been keenly involved in black economic empowerment and land redistribution. Established in 1997, the 42 hectare estate sits at the foot of the Simonsberg Mountains.
This is the second label, that also is meticulously looked after and sourced from the younger wines on the estate. The wine spends 18 months in older French oak barrels and offers abundant black cherry notes, with layers of spice and vanilla. Medium bodied, verging on full but it has ability to retain freshness. 13.5% vol.
